Abstract

Skáldsögur Michel Houellebecq eru ræddar út frá kenningum Evu Illouz um hvernig kapítalisminn hefur mótað og að einhverju leyti tekið yfir tilfinningalíf Vesturlandabúa. Einnig eru afdrif persóna Houellebecq skoðaðar í ljósi tilgátu Carol Gilligan og Naomi Snider um samband tengslaraskana og feðraveldis. Í ljós kemur að skrif þeirra eru til þess fallin að auka skilning á verkum Houellebecq og því umhverfi sem þær eru sprottnar úr.

ABSTRACT
Attachment loss and emotional capitalism. On sex, intimacy and lack of connection in Michel Houellebecq’s novels Eva Illouz‘s studies of how capitalism has shaped and, in some cases, invested the emotional lives of Westerners are used to study Michel Houellebecq‘s novels. His characters are also analysed from the perspective of Carol Gilligan and Naomi Snider’s hypothesis that patriarchy persists because of loss of emotional connection at an early age. Both bodies of work deepen our understanding of Houellebecq’s novels and of the context from which they arise.
